Was that the ‘craziest’ knockout in UFC history?
Last night at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, a bloodied and battered Yair Rodriguez knocked out Chang Sung Jung — better known as ‘Korean Zombie — in the final second of the UFC Fight Night 139 main event with a blind, ducking elbow.
Speaking to Laura Sanko on the FS1 post-fight show, UFC president Dana White credited 26-year-old Rodriguez for scoring the ‘craziest finish ever’ on the UFC’s 25th-year anniversary.
“Craziest finish ever,” an ecstatic Dana White said, per MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn. “There was one second left on the clock when he landed that elbow, and Yair was losing 4-to-1. ‘Zombie’ had the fight in the bag, he had one second to go and, wow, what a finish.”
Not only did Rodriguez score one of the greatest highlight reel finishes of all-time, but the Mexican-born fighter earned a Fight of the Night bonus after going back-and-forth with Jung for almost five full rounds.
‘El Pantera’ looked to be visibly injured in the UFC Fight Night post-fight interview and was hospitalized shortly after leaving the Pepsi Center. Jung, who was winning the fight up until the KO, was also sent to hospital.
