community news, Dana White reacts to Rafael dos Anjos injury, wont rule out interim title fight for Conor McGregor

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos could be back on the scene in roughly six weeks following a broken foot that booted him from the UFC 196 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which will carry on without him on March 5, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

More on that untimely injury here.

In his absence, reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor will remain at 155 pounds and compete against an opponent to be named, though UFC President Dana White told Yahoo! Sports he’s unsure of whether or not to make it an interim title fight.

I guess the first step is actually finding someone willing to compete.

“It’s amazing, to be honest with you,” White told Kevin Iole. “All of these managers are out there jockeying and they say they want to fight Conor. You hear these guys screaming, ‘Conor, Conor, Conor,’ but then when it comes time to take a fight, they turn it down and they’re hurt.”

McGregor competed for the interim featherweight title at UFC 189 last July, following a similar situation with ex-champ Jose Aldo.

Aldo and Frankie Edgar were both offered the spot; however, “Junior” was not in fighting shape and “The Answer” is dealing with a slew of injuries. That leaves Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone, and Anthony Pettis as potential fill-ins, as all three fighters have expressed their willingness to step in on short notice.

The ball, it would appear, is in White’s court.
