Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White recently revealed that star-crossed mixed martial arts (MMA) enigma, Nick Diaz, wants back inside the Octagon.
“Nick wants to fight,” White told FOXSports.com. “Nick’s ready to go again. I’ve got to figure that out.”
Meanwhile, Diaz — a proud medical marijuana card-carrying member — has been spotted puffing monster blunts with Tommy Chong (watch video) and rolling with Snoop Dogg (see pic). He hass even done a little bathroom brawling, among other unsanctioned things. Marijuana, though, has been the reason Diaz has been on the sidelines for almost two years — the “dorks” at Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) had it as high as five years at one point.
Even though he reached a settlement and served a reduced amount of time, he still has an outstanding balance with NSAC. And, if he wants to return to action, he’ll likely have to satisfy his debts. Or not, if he wants to blaze Conor McGregor’s trail. Nevertheless, if Diaz is willing and able to play nice in the brave, new United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) world — and not brow beat pee collectors — and he is cleared to compete, it certainly would be good for UFC business.
Yes, Diaz has not won a fight inside the Octagon in more than five years. But, he has only appeared three times since Feb. 2012, dropping decisions to the top two Welterweight fighters at the time, Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit, and then his ill-fated showdown with Anderson Silva at UFC 183 that resulted in a drug-inspired “No Contest.”
