Do you want to be a [expletive] president?
Dana White spoke Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention in support of longtime friend and presidential candidate Donald Trump. The UFC honcho spoke for four minutes about why he believed Trump will be an excellent future Commander in Chief.
White’s relationship with Trump goes back years to when the UFC was struggling to get back on pay-per-view and cleared by athletic commissions. Trump welcomed the fight promotion to his Atlantic City casinos with open arms after new rules were put in place and the commissions began licensing the UFC again.
In 2011, White said Trump texted him to congratulate him on the UFC’s broadcast deal with Fox. Trump, White said, told him that he always knew he would do it. White recounted that anecdote Tuesday night.
“I think that sense of loyalty and commitment will translate into how he will run this country,” White said. “And let’s be honest folks, we need somebody who believes in this country, we need somebody who’s proud of this country and who will fight for this country.”
White, who seemed fired up the entire speech, closed with bravado.
“Let me tell you something, I’ve been in the fight business my whole life,” White said. “I know fighters. Ladies and gentleman, Donald Trump is a fighter and I know he will fight for this country.”
White was previously quoting as saying he’s not into politics and has views from both sides of the aisle. But he was glad to accept the invitation to speak in front of the GOP because of his loyalty to Trump.
