Sorry, Tyron Woodley, but your efforts to stonewall Stephen Thompson apparently didn’t work. According to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, “The Chosen One” will defend his newly-won Welterweight title against Stephen Thompson next.

That means Woodley’s hopes of cashing in on a “big money” fight against Nick Diaz are out the window. That’s because White told UFC.com that Diaz is far from deserving a shot at the title in his first fight back. While he was at it, White also confirmed that Conor McGregor will indeed defend his Featherweight title for the first time ever after his upcoming rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on Aug. 20, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I fully expect Conor to come back and defend his 145-pound title,” said White. “I think that Nate feels his brother should have the fight at 170, but Nick is not going to come back and fight for the title right away,” he said. “There are other guys deserving of a title shot. Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is going to fight for the 170-pound title and then we’ll see what happens with Nick and Nate,” clarified White.

I guess that means Woodley’s hopes of cashing in against Georges St-Pierre is out, too.

As far as his views of the upcoming rematch between McGregor and Diaz, White is confident it will be just as good — if not better — than their first encounter at UFC 196.

“If you look at how big Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather was and how big Diaz-McGregor 1 was – Diaz-McGregor delivered,” White said. “That fight delivered on all the hype and all the excitement and energy, and this one will, too.
