community news, Dana White: UFC will donate $1 million to families affected by Las Vegas mass shooting

UFC president Dana White confirmed that the promotion will donate money to families affected by Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sunday’s mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada has left at least 58 people dead, with more than 500 injured. It is the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, surpassing the 49 killed at an Orlando nightclub just over one year ago.

The suspected gunman, identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, shot and killed himself after he fired onto a crowd of concert goers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Las Vegas has been the longtime headquarters for the UFC, and the promotion is set to donate $1 million to the families of victims of Sunday’s horrific events. UFC president Dana White confirmed this with media members on Monday.

The UFC also released a statement confirming that this weekend’s UFC 216 pay-per-view card will go on as planned.

“Our focus right now is on supporting the community and those affected by Sunday evening’s events,” the statement read. “UFC 216 on Saturday, October 7 at T-Mobile Arena will proceed as scheduled until further notice.”
