Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion and GQ model Conor McGregor is planning to challenge Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a mixed martial arts (MMA) vs. boxing crossover fight later this year, and even has the backing of Nevada State Athletic Commission.
And while UFC President Dana White was willing to entertain such a match up — at least temporarily — it appears to be business as usual until contracts are signed, which means “Notorious” will be returning to the cage this summer as previously expected.
After he’s done with his daddy duties.
“There’s nothing really to talk about,” White told Brett Okamoto (via Daily Star). “He’s out on maternity leave right now, and after his girl has the baby, we’ll offer him another fight.”
A lot can happen between now and then.
But assuming McGregor does not find a home in the “sweet science,” he’s likely to face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson, who collide at UFC 209 next month in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the interim 155-pound strap.
