Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 3 results: Karl Roberson, Geoffrey Neal earn UFC contracts after quick finishes

Two UFC contracts were awarded in the third installment of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

Light heavyweight Karl Roberson and middleweight Geoffrey Neal were given UFC contracts by UFC president Dana White after having quick finishes in their respective bouts. The five-fight DWTNCS card took place on Tuesday at The Ultimate Fighter gym in Las Vegas, Nev. and aired live on UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event of the card, Roberson only needed 15 seconds to put away his opponent Ryan Spann. The 26-year-old unbeaten prospect threw a big body kick, but was caught by Spann and then pressed against the cage in the clinch. From there, Roberson posted off Spann’s face with his forearm and delivered a few quick, short elbows that stunned and dropped Spann, forcing the referee to stop the action. Roberson now joins the UFC with a 5-0 professional record.

Neal, who was awarded the second contract, defeated Chase Waldon in less than two minutes into their middleweight bout. Neal stunned Waldon early in the fight, forcing Waldon to press him against the cage to look for a takedown. Despite getting Neal to the ground, Waldon wasn’t able to solidify any position or cause any damage on top. “Handz of Steel” wall walked back to his feet, and delivered a combination with quick, short punches that overwhelmed Waldon. The referee waved off the fight at the 1:56 mark of the first round. The 26-year-old Neal is 8-2 in MMA, and had picked up a technical knockout win at LFA 11 days prior to defeating Waldon.

Additionally on the card, three other fighters picked up victories.

Welterweight Kyle Stewart defeated Combat Club prospect Jason Jackson via second-round technical knockout. It was a freak injury that determined the outcome of the bout, as Jackson twisted his ankle in gruesome manner after getting dropped by Stewart in the first. Jackson wasn’t able to continue fighting in the second and was carried out of the Octagon. Alonzo Menifield also got a technical knockout win due to injury, defeating former UFC light heavyweight Daniel Jolly. The 32-year-old Jolly wasn’t able to continue into round two, telling the official doctor he couldn’t see out of his left eye.

And lastly, Hawaii’s Dan Ige earned a solid submission win in an action-packed featherweight fight against Gomez Alvarez, who trains with UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal. Ige is now 8-1 in MMA, and was told by White that he was on the UFC radar, and that he just needed to keep on building his record.
