Daniel Cormier: No wrestling — I’m standing with Rumble Johnson, will fold him like a load of laundry

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier is on the mend after his latest fight-canceling injury (more on that here) and finally has a date for his next 205-pound title defense.

That comes against division power-puncher Anthony Johnson, who rematches “DC” in the UFC 210 pay-per-view (PPV) main event on Sat., April 8, 2017 inside KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

And I think the medication used to help Cormier recover from his injury has seeped into his brain (it happens), based on the head-scratching comments he made during Wednesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight.

His words:

“I get to go in there and fold up Rumble Johnson like a nice load of laundry. No wrestling. I’m standing up with Rumble Johnson. You say you’re going to knock me – prove it to me on April 8th. I’ll be waiting for you. I’m going to stand with this dude. What’s the worst that can happen?”

Uh huh. Kind of like he did against Anderson Silva?

Cormier (18-1) has only lost a decision to former 205-pound kingpin Jon Jones and is unquestionably the second-best fighter in the division. But the secret to that success has always been his Olympic wrestling, used to transition between shots and strikes.

And trying to prove he can stand and bang with “King Kong” … sounds like posturing.

Anyone disagree?
