Darren Till Lost His Sight During Brutal Weight Cut Ahead of UFC Liverpool (VIDEO)
Darren Till suffered severe health issues during his weight cut ahead of a fight with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at the UFC Fight Night card in Liverpool last weekend.
Till failed to make weight for the welterweight showdown, coming in at 174.5 pounds — a full three and a half pounds over the limit for a non title fight.
Now one of Till’s sponsors has released a behind the scenes video that revealed what he was doing to make weight and how bad things got during the process.
When Till began his final weight cut on Friday, he was approximately 11 pounds over the limit as he ran on a treadmill and hit pads with one of his coaches.
A trip to the sauna followed after that as Till was barely able to crawl out of the room because he was so depleted when the session was finished. By that point, Till was still only halfway through his weight cut.
Till then had to respond to a family emergency before returning to his gym at 5 a.m. the next morning to finish his weight cut.
At one point during the video, Till apparently lost the ability to see as a result of the severe dehydration and his health issues only continued to multiply after that camera crews were told to stop filming.
Till apologized profusely for failing to make weight, which is the second time this has happened to him since joining the UFC roster.
Judging by this video, the UFC will have to take a long hard look at allowing Till to fight at welterweight again considering the kind of health issues that were documented during his attempts to cut down for his fight against Thompson.
