David Branch is doing what he can to get in the Octagon with another big fish. Branch, who is coming off a big knockout win over Thiago Santos, is trying to land a fight with longtime contender Ronaldo Souza. But according to the former WSOF champ, Jacare isn’t all that interested in it.
A few days ago, Jacare tweeted about what fights he’s looking for next:
Neither of those seem very likely right now. Romero is coming off a very close battle with 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker, while Gastelum and Jacare just fought at UFC 224. Gastelum took a close split decision, but no one is exactly demanding a rematch.
So, enter Branch. After asking for the fight, he tweeted a couple of days later that it had been offered to him. But Jacare “isn’t feeling confident enough” to sign on:
He mentions August 22nd there, but likely means September 22nd, where the UFC has an event scheduled in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Jacare is current ranked at number five at middleweight, while Branch is at seven. So the bout does make sense from a rankings perspective. We’ll just have to wait and see if the UFC can get both fighters to agree to the fight, not just one.
