Deivison Ribeiro fought Andre Harrison for the Titan FC featherweight championship Friday night, but it ended in dramatic fashion in the third round.
Ribeiro earned a shot at the 145-pound title after winning four straight under the XFC banner, winning the promotion’s belt during the run, and it was a competitive fight in Coral Gables, Fla. In the third round, Harrison checked a leg kick and ended up breaking the Brazilian’s ankle.
Ribeiro’s coach Everton Bittar told MMA Fighting that the featherweight is having surgery now in Florida. According to Bittar, Ribeiro likely fractured his tibia and fibula.
“Thank you all who rooted for me,” Ribeiro posted on his Facebook Saturday morning. “Sorry for not bringing the belt to Brazil, and sorry to my team that helped me a lot in this camp, my coaches and training partners. For me, God doesn’t stop being God because this happened to me. I know his plans are better than mine.”
