Despite loss, Junior dos Santos admires Stipe Miocic and is happy that he is champion

JDS thinks Miocic could become the greatest champion in UFC history.

Junior dos Santos might be emotional over his championship loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 211, but the Brazilian has no problem giving credit where it’s due.

Dos Santos was swiftly finished in the first round by Miocic and found himself overwhelmed by the heavyweight champion’s pressure boxing.

Miocic has finished his last four fights via first-round KO or TKO and is on track to becoming the most dominant heavyweight champ in UFC history.

The record for the most UFC heavyweight title defenses is two, but the 34-year-old could break that record in his next fight.

Dos Santos, the former champ, said he ‘admires’ Miocic and believes he could soon etch his name into the MMA history books.

“He’s on the way,” dos Santos told Damon Martin of FOX Sports in a recent interview.. “Because he’s doing actually great and like I said, I admire him. Like I said again, if I’m not the champion, I’m happy he’s the champion.”

While everyone, including UFC president Dana White, is curious to see if Miocic can best the UFC HW record in his next bout, the reigning champ doesn’t care about breaking records and just wants to keep winning.

“No, I really don’t care,” he said. “If I keep winning I’ll break history — big deal. “I’m just going to keep winning. I like winning. I like being called champ especially.”

Miocic has a terrific resume, beating the likes of dos Santos, Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, and is anticipated to take on former two-time champ Cain Velasquez in his next title defense.
