The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) on Wednesday issued a temporary suspension to UFC featherweight Diego Brandao following the Brazilian’s failed drug test at UFC 195 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, NV.

Brando (21-9) tested positive for marijuana metabolites in an in-competition drug screening ahead of a third-round submission loss against Brian Ortega.

Brandao’s test results exceeded the WADA limit of 180 ng/ml, as well as the NAC limit of 150 ng/ml. Nevada defines in-competition as the 12 hours before and after a fight.

Brando, 28, is expected to receive a full hearing at a future NAC meeting.

A former winner of The Ultimate Fighter 14, Brandao holds a 6-4 record under the UFC umbrella. He had won back-to-back first-round stoppages over Jim Hettes and Katsunori Kikuno prior to losing to Ortega.

The case marks the latest marijuana failure in the state of Nevada. Previously, the NAC suspended UFC star Nick Diaz for five years and fined him $165,000 for a controversial marijuana failure, which counted as Diaz’s third such offense. That punishment was ultimately reduced to 18 months and $100,000 following a settlement deal with the NAC.
