UFC veteran Diego Sanchez will fight recent newcomer Craig White in a welterweight bout on Sept. 10, the promotion announced Thursday.
Set for UFC 228 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, “The Nightmare” will be competing in the UFC for the 28th time while White will be making just his second appearance inside the Octagon.
Sanchez (27-11) last fought at UFC Norfolk in November, where he was defeated in ugly fashion via first-round knockout after taking an elbow from Matt Brown. The first Ultimate Fighter winner and a one-time lightweight title challenger, the 36-year-old Sanchez is currently experiencing a rough stretch, having been finished by strikes in the opening round in three of his last four outings.
White (14-8) made his UFC debut in May, stepping in on just 12 days’ notice to fight Neil Magny at UFC Liverpool. The 28-year-old Englishman had emerged as a standout in the Cage Warriors promotion before falling to Magny by first-round KO.
UFC 228 is scheduled to be headlined by a pair of UFC championship bouts as Tyron Woodley defends the welterweight title against Darren Till, and Nicco Montano seeks her first defense of the women’s flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko.
