‘Disappointed’ Rashad Evans issues statement on UFC 205 withdrawal

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, was forced to put his 185-pound debut on ice after the New York State Athletic Commission denied him a license to compete.

Full story here.

While the exact nature of “Suga’s” medical issue has yet to be disclosed, Evans insists he’s fine — despite some issues with his pre-fight MRI — and already has his sights set on a return to the Octagon in December.

From MMA Fighting:

“I’m disappointed. I’m healthy. I don’t want anyone worrying about me. I’m fine, physically speaking. Never felt better. It’s just the commission and their rules. I guess they have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this.. Man, I had something special for Tim. This doesn’t change the fact that I want to fight. This doesn’t change anything for me as far as fighting. In life, if it ain’t one thing it’s another. I won’t get beat down by this.”

Evans (19-5-1) hasn’t seen the win column in over three years.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 champ was slotted to throw hands with middleweight veteran Tim Kennedy, who just off a plane to find out he’s not fighting at the UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) event this weekend in New York City.

Just landed in New York. It sounds like my fight with @SugaRashadEvans is off. I do not have official word. #ufc205
