Donald Cerrone: Conor McGregor is ‘Easy Work’ for Eddie Alvarez

Not one to shy away from voicing his opinion, UFC welterweight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has let it be known that he is not a fan of current company featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Appearing on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Cerrone was asked about the UFC 205 main event match-up between McGregor and Eddie Alvarez for the latter’s lightweight championship, scheduled for Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Having previously defeated Alvarez at UFC 178, Cerrone knows what the incumbent champion is capable of, and believes that he has more than enough ability to derail his challenger.

“No, that’s not a good fight,” Cerrone said on the podcast. “Because Conor sucks. Yes (Eddie is going to beat him). Eddie is smart. He won’t get caught up in all of the dramatics of it. He’ll just go in there and take him down and wrestle him and submit him; easy work.”

One of McGregor’s greatest strengths lies in his mental approach. He’s a trash talker in the tradition of Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz, frequently rattling his opponents before they ever set foot in the Octagon.

Cerrone is familiar with such antics, admittedly having falling victim to the same approach by Nate Diaz. He now knows how to deal with it, and he believes that Alvarez does as well. The former Bellator champ isn’t going to be easy for McGregor to crack, setting him up for what Cerrone believes is an easy win.

“Conor is good at getting you emotionally involved. So, I think you just go out there, take him down, and end him quick. Check please.”
