Donald Cerrone fined by UFC for violating Outfitting Policy at UFC on FOX 17

It was a tough holiday season for Donald Cerrone.

Not only did “Cowboy” fall by first-round TKO to Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC on FOX 17 title main event on Dec. 19, he was also fined by the UFC for violating its Athletic Outfitting Policy, Cerrone’s manager Josh Jones confirmed with MMA Fighting on Thursday.

MMAjunkie reported Wednesday that three fighters from the UFC on FOX card last month were fined due to “serious” infractions of the policy. The article cited Tracey Bleczinski, the UFC senior vice president of global consumer products, but did not mention any specific names. Bleczinski said 12 other fighters have been warned about possible violations since the Outfitting Policy began in July, but these were the first three fined.

The UFC declined comment on the report Thursday and opted to not make Bleczinski available for an interview with MMA Fighting.

On Wednesday night, Cerrone outed himself on Twitter as one of the fighters penalized. Neither the UFC nor Jones said how much “Cowboy” was fined nor what he did to earn the penalty.

Cerrone (28-7, 1 NC) always has a patch of his old Muay Thai shorts sewn onto his fight shorts. It’s a ritual he has done for years and an homage to his beloved grandmother, who is in attendance for almost all of his fights. “Cowboy” had the patch on his Reebok shorts for the dos Anjos fight last month, but it’s unclear if that was the violation.
