Donald Cerrone on meeting with Dana White: ‘He’s a happy man, I’m a happy man’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White wasn’t too pleased when he found out that Donald Cerrone was one of the five board members representing the newly-created Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA), seeing as how the two men are pretty tight with one another.

Indeed, “Cowboy” acknowledged that maybe he should have informed his boss and friend about his involvement with the group: who is looking to get a bigger cut of the company pie for fighters, along with insurance, pension, among other things.

However, earlier this week while both men were in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to fulfill their respective duties for the UFC 206 pay-per-view (PPV) event, they had a quick chat about their respective positions.

“It went very good. It wasn’t a lunch, he just pulled me aside after the media scrum and we talked for about 15 or 20 minutes and he’s a happy man and I’m a happy man,” Cerrone revealed during the post fight presser (full video replay here) via Fox Sports. “So we just talked about what I wanted, what he expected out of me and it went very well.”

When asked if the talk accomplished anything, as far as getting his points and conference across, Cerrone seems to think it did, as he says White was open to everything he had to day.

“1,000-percent receptive, definitely,” Cerrone said. “It was always in a good place. It reminds me of when you get in trouble with your dad and they don’t ground you, they just tell you how disappointed they are in you, which is even worse. So that’s kind of what he did to me and he’s just like ‘you let me down,’ it’s not so much let him down but just kind of a slap in his face,” he added.

“I guess I should have let him know what I was getting involved in. It is what it is, but we’re on the up and up now,” concluded Cerrone, who knocked out Matt Brown in the co-headlining act of the PPV event inside Air Canada Center.

Moving forward, Cerrone still plans to push for all of his and MMAAA’s objectives, but for now, it seems his friendship with White is all good.
