community news, Dustin Poirier vs. Bobby Green scheduled for UFC 199

Ranked UFC lightweights Dustin Poirier and Bobby Green have agreed to square off June 4 at UFC 199. UFC officials confirmed the fight Monday following a report from the Los Angeles Daily News.

Poirier (19-4) has won three straight contests since losing to current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and transitioning up to lightweight. After knocking out Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros inside the first round, Poirier, 27, dominated his toughest test yet at 155, seizing a three-round decision over Irish prospect Joseph Duffy this past January.

Known as the “The Diamond,” Poirier has won 11 of his 14 appearances inside the UFC cage, highlighted by first-round submissions over Max Holloway and Jonathan Brookins. He is currently the No. 10 ranked lightweight on the organization’s media-generated rankings.

Green (23-6), meanwhile, returns to action for the first time since Nov. 2014, when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Edson Barboza. Prior to that bout, Green, 29, won eight consecutive fights under the Strikeforce and the UFC banners, topped by victories over Pat Healy and Josh Thomson.

Despite a long layoff due to injury, Green remains the No. 12 ranked lightweight on the UFC roster.

UFC 199 takes place at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The card is headlined by a championship doubleheader, as UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold puts his belt on the line in a rematch against Chris Weidman, and bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz squares off in a rubber match against Urijah Faber.
