Basilio, Mesquita, Mayo, Ribas and others set for submission event.

The Eddie Bravo Invitational continues to be one of the top promotions in competitive grappling. In 2017 they gave sport fans EBI 12 which featured a flyweight tournament featuring some of the top ladies in the industry. EBI 16 continues that storyline, but this time it’s the bantamweights that get their time center stage.

On Tuesday, EBI announced the scheduled lineup for EBI 16 and it brings out a variety of world champions and well-recognized names. Fifteen of the sixteen names were revealed and there are a number of women that stand out as potential favorites for this tournament.

Bianca Basilio is coming off of a big win at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Pro just a few short days ago. She’s a multiple-time champion that’s captured many victories across the IBJJF and CBJJ circuits. She’s faced and defeated some of the most recognized names in the sport and continues to be a name to watch any time she steps onto the mat.

If Basilio is considered a top candidate to win, then Beatriz Mesquita must be on that same list as a betting favorite for this event. Last year she earned the 60 kilogram title at ADCC, and to do so she had to defeat Basilio in the finals. She has also been very successful for many of the top grappling promotions and was recognized as a standout competitor even as a lower belt.

There are a number of names that come into this event with experience in both competitive grappling and mixed martial arts. Brooke Mayo is a name that’s recognizable to both MMA and EBI fans. She’s competed in Bellator and as a part of the Combat Jiu Jitsu tournament that occurred at EBI 12. Then there’s Amanda Ribas, who was scheduled to make her UFC debut last year before a USADA suspension derailed her career for two years. Erin Herle is also coming into this event with experience in this format as she competed at EBI 12 as well.

One of the dark horses to watch is Amanda Leve who trains with the Ricardo Almeida team in New Jersey. The 21-year old brown belt is a competitor that’s won a number of big tournaments and is making her EBI debut.

Also on the card, Vagner Rocha looks to capture his second CJJ title as he faces Richie Martinez for his welterweight CJJ championship.

EBI 16 is scheduled for June 24 from San Diego, California. The event will be available for streaming through the UFC Fight Pass platform.
