Full Metal Dojo (FMD): “The 37th Chamber” took place at the Insanity Nightclub in Bangkok last Saturday night (Sept. 10, 2016) and featured 10 fights with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt Daniel Hortegas taking on Asian mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Emilio Uruttia in the main event.

It proved to be an enthralling back-and-forth battle with both men scrambling for position and taking turns to enjoy top control and attack with submissions and ground and pound. Even the judges had trouble separating the two fighters but ultimately Uruttia (8-4) prevailed over Hortegas (3-3) by way of split decision.

The co-main event was a wild brawl with Thai Rithy (5-2) and Riki Corminal (4-1) going toe-to-toe in the opening round. In the second stanza, the Cambodian went for a takedown, ended up on the bottom and was stopped with a series of hard elbows.

There was controversy in the heavyweight fight between Jamie Sloane (6-3) and Masoud Ranjbar (3-0). The Englishman was giving away a lot of weight but still managed to land some hard punches to his opponent’s head during a grueling first two rounds.

Ranjbar is nothing if not durable and was able to take Sloane’s best shots but the bout ended in an anticlimactic fashion when the Englishman was hurt by an elbow early in the third. He felt it had connected to the back of his head but was unable to continue and the referee awarded the TKO win to his opponent.
