There will be a Brazil vs. Hawaii table-setter before Jose Aldo and Max Holloway square off at UFC 212.
A welterweight tilt between Erick Silva and Wai’anae’s own Yancy Medeiros has been booked for the UFC’s June 3 pay-per-view in Rio de Janeiro. MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz confirmed the news Friday following an initial report by local Hawaiian outlet KHON2.
“Westside boys gonna rep Hawaii in Brazil” Medeiros told KHON2.
Silva (19-7, 1 NC) looks to string together his first winning streak in two years following a third-round finish of Luan Chagas at UFC Fight Night 95’s ‘Fight of the Night.’ The 32-year-old Brazilian has endured a roller-coaster run in the UFC since making his debut in 2011, compiling a 7-6 Octagon record highlighted by wins over Josh Koscheck and Jason High, but marred by losses against many of the division’s best, including Neil Magny, Matt Brown, and Dong Hyun Kim.
Medeiros (13-4, 1 NC), meanwhile, has won four of his past six contests, sandwiching recent wins over John Makdessi and Sean Spencer between setbacks against Dustin Poirier and Francisco Trinaldo. Prior to that, the 29-year-old former Strikeforce product picked up back-to-back submission wins over Damon Jackson and Joe Proctor.
Combined, Silva (7) and Medeiros (4) have accounted for 11 post-fight bonuses over the course of their UFC tenure.
