Cody Garbrandt is more motivated than ever heading into his first title defense at UFC 217.
Breakout talent Cody Garbrandt put on the performance of his career against Dominick Cruz at UFC 207, but ‘No Love’ has promised to up the ante against T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 217.
Garbrandt, who has finished most of his bouts in the first round, dazzled fans with his five-round masterclass against ‘The Dominator’ to win the UFC bantamweight title last December.
The 26-year-old phenom told the media at yesterday’s open workouts that fans will see an even more evolved, complete fighter in his first title defense on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
“Three days until I put on my best performance and defend my title,” Garbrandt said, per MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn and John Morgan. “You can expect me to be better than ever before. I’m the most hungry fighter ever.”
His opponent, Dillashaw, is an ex-member of Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male (TAM) and the former bantamweight champ. The 31-year-old, who now trains out of Elevation Fight Team in Colorado, lost a razor close split decision to Cruz last year but rebounded with back-to-back wins over divisional standouts Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker.
As ex-teammates turned arch rivals, Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw is one of the most highly anticipated championship bouts of the year and will serve as the co-main event for UFC 217. The pay-per-view takes place this Saturday, Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
