After a tragic accident last week, it appears that UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes is slowly getting better.
While Matt Hughes isn’t out of the woods yet, his family says that his condition is improving following a serious vehicle collision with a train in Illinois last week. The 43-year-old was apparently struck on the passenger side of his vehicle by a train, and was airlifted to a hospital where he remains in stable condition.
A statement from the family remarked on Hughes’ improving medical condition (via MMA Fighting):
“He is improving and continues to show us his heart and determination each day.He has a long road ahead of him and your continued thoughts and prayers will help him with the journey.”
“Matt has always been a fighter; but he is now in the biggest fight of his life. We know he will continue to improve with God’s Grace and Mercy.”
His family has previously stated that Hughes suffered no broken bones or internal injuries, but was “minimally responsive” and on a ventilator.
Hughes retired from MMA in 2011, and remains one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. From everyone at Bloody Elbow, we wish Hughes a speedy recovery.
