In an ugly moment from UFC 198 on Saturday, American welterweight Matt Brown was struck by at least three fans as he made his walk to the octagon to take on Brazlian Demian Maia.
UFC General Manager of Brazil Giovani Decker was asked about the incident during the event’s post-fight press conference and said that the fight promotion is going to be “extra careful” in the future.
“We identified who it was that pulled him and we took them out of the arena,” he said.

While Brown wasn’t injured and was able to compete on the fight card, the situation was dangerous and could have put the fight in jeopardy.
“Moving forward, we’re going to have to be extra careful especially when the foreign fighters are walking out,” said Decker. “We took them out of the arena.”
On Friday, during the event’s official weigh-in, the crowd began taunting Brown, which almost always happens when taking on a Brazilian in Brazil. Brown reacted by turning his back to and flipping off the more than 15,000 spectators in attendance.
Maia defeated Brown via submission in the third round during the preliminary card’s featured fight.
