Floyd Mayweather outlines the way he can lose to Conor McGregor in a boxing match.
Will Floyd Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs) and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor ever compete in the boxing ring? Well despite all of the reported discussions and negotiations, there’s no done deal just yet.
While betting odds for this hypothetical meeting of two of the biggest draws in combat sports history have tightened considerably, Mayweather is still a huge favorite to beat a fighter who, technically speaking, has also never lost in a pro boxing match. A McGregor win would be a monstrous upset over one of the most dominant athletes of his generation.

“So, I’m not gonna sit right here and knock Conor McGregor. He’s gone out there and done what he’s had to do. It’s obvious he’s done something right thus far to get to the point where he’s at .”
So, where does Floyd admit Conor has a shot?
“I’ve been off for a couple years and I’m 40 years old now. So, I’m a lot older and he’s still in his 20s and I’m in my 40s now. So that could play a major key, we don’t know. And he’s a heavy hitter.”
Floyd also says he can’t ignore the fact Conor’s been crushing dudes while fighting standing up — saying, “Every time he goes out there and defeats fighters, he’s standing up. He’s in a boxing position and he’s beating fighters.”
“Does he have a good chance of upsetting Floyd Mayweather? I can’t say, but anything can happen in the sport of boxing.”
Mayweather hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in September 2015. He announced his retirement from the sport (for the third time in his career), but then recently indicated he’d return for a fight against McGregor.
The last time McGregor fought in the Octagon was when he thrashed Eddie Alvarez to secure the UFC lightweight title back in November. No plans have been made for him actually defending the belt, as all attention has been focused on making the Mayweather megafight happen.
