How she came into her fight against Kelly McGill at Invicta FC 16 in March wasn’t quite how female bantamweight up-and-comer Aspen Ladd would have liked, but she nonetheless was able to come away with a solid third-round TKO victory.

With McGill’s originally scheduled opponent, Amberlynn Orr, dropping out of their bout, Ladd stepped in on short notice, even though she was feeling less than 100-percent healthy.

“I think I did pretty well considering they called me on a week’s notice, while I was in bed sick with the flu,” Ladd told MMAWeekly.com. “Honestly, when we know there’s an Invicta date, we train anyway, because there’s been several times where you’ve got to be ready for the call when someone drops (out of a fight).

“You’ve got to be ready for the date. It’s just with everything else going on, we didn’t expect it at that point. I was ready, but it was interesting circumstances with me being sick and all that.”

Her victory of McGill was Ladd’s third win in a row to start her pro career. And while she would like to be a bit more active, Ladd is pleased with her strong start.

“Honestly, I’d like to fight more often than I do now, but as far as how my career is going, yeah, I’m happy,” she said. “I want to be known as a finisher, somebody that you can call on short notice, who gets the job done.
