Bellator 146: “Kato vs. Manhoef” took place Nov. 20, 2015, at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. In a local fight that did not air on the Spike TV broadcast nor on Spike.com, Roshaun Jones lost via submission to Klayton Mai in the first round via guillotine choke. It was the last fight Jones would have for Bellator MMA, though he’d go on to take two more fights in 2016, both of which he would lose, too. With a career record of 2-6 through eight professional fights, mixed martial arts (MMA) was not working out too well for Jones.
However, things have seemingly gone from bad to worse for Jones, who was recently arrested on two counts of murder. Indeed, Bloody Elbow reports that Jones was the primary suspect in a double homicide in Del City, Okla., on Jan. 23, 2017. Police investigators in Del City had surveillance video from a laundromat showing what appeared to be a robbery gone bad, where Jones allegedly shot both the proprietor of the laundromat and a customer who was trying to help her.
Even before this latest incident, Jones had a checkered history with law enforcement in the area, with guilty pleas entered in 2007 for selling counterfeit DVDs, driving under the influence, and distribution of marijuana. In 2014, he was convicted on counts of domestic assault and battery and interference with an emergency telephone call.
One wonders how he ever got cleared for a Bellator fight, even a low-level unaired “Prelims” undercard bout, in the first place.
