Former UFC fighter Lavar Johnson sentenced to five years in prison for domestic assault

Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters should be held even more responsible for their physical actions outside of the cage. Just look at what a loose cannon like Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver can do when given the opportunity to impose his gift of being able to fight.

Like Koppenhaver, but to a lesser degree, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Lavar Johnson has joined a pitiful group of cage fighters gone wrong. Remember, it was revealed a few months back that Johnson had assaulted his girlfriend, slamming her head against the wall before ending with knees and punches.

In the wake of the incident, Johnson has officially been sentenced to five years in prison for domestic abuse by a Fresno County judge earlier this week, per a report by ABC30.

Johnson, 38, last fought in UFC back in 2013 when he lost to Brendan Schaub at UFC 157, later testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone. After his release from the promotion, the heavy-handed brawler went 1-3 under Bellator rule.
