This has not been a great weekend for MMA. Not only did UFC legend Matt Hughes get airlifted to a hospital after his truck collided with a train, but former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague has been declared brain dead after suffering a knockout loss during a boxing match last night (Fri., June 16, 2017).

Sources close to teammates at the hospital revealed the unfortunate news earlier today:

Sources in contact with teammates at the hospital tell me Hague was declared brain dead 2 hrs ago. Such a tragedy. Thoughts with his family.

Hague, 34, made a move to boxing after suffering a 33-second knockout loss to Michal Andryszak last July in his final MMA appearance. The Canadian veteran compiled a 1-4 record under UFC rule from 2009-2011, with his lone victory coming against Pat Barry via submission. Prior to Friday’s incident, Hague had suffered eight total knockouts throughout his 10-year MMA career.
