Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was sold to WME | IMG group earlier this year for a staggering $4.2 billion.
Not surprisingly, one of the executives instrumental in making that sale a reality, UFC President Dana White, cleaned up at the teller window once the checks cleared (see his payout here). But even though the foul-mouthed fight promoter was one of the big reasons UFC became the global force it is today, not everyone was happy to see him break the bank.
Including former UFC middleweight Cung Le.
“You can’t have promoters take advantage of fighters, that’s just wrong,” Le told Fight Hub TV (via MMA Fighting). “The UFC sold for $4 billion – 4.2 sorry – and Dana White’s made more than all the fighters in UFC history combined. That’s just wrong. Good for him, but it’s not right.”
Le, who “got paid like shit,” is currently part of the UFC anti-trust lawsuit (details).
Unfortunately, there was no storybook ending for Le, 44, after the promotion botched his overseas drug test. In addition, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion suffered a brutal technical knockout loss to Michael Bisping (pic) prior to hanging up the gloves.
Sour grapes … or voice of the people?
