After a frighteningly brutal KO win over Alistair Overeem, Francis Ngannou is the early betting favorite over Stipe Miocic.
It’s not very often that a future title challenger opens as a betting favorite over a UFC champion, especially when that champ has defended his belt multiple times. But after the way that Francis Ngannou dispatched of Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 over the weekend in Detroit, that is the position he finds himself in. The odds have dropped for that potential title fight with Stipe Miocic, and linemakers are leaning slightly towards Ngannou right now:
Ngannou originally opened at -160 on 5Dimes, but now sits at -140. The French-Cameroonian fighter (11-1) has won every one of his six UFC bouts thus far, all before the final horn. His finish of Overeem came via a wild left hook that sent Overeem sprawling to the mat, unconscious, at 1:42 of the first round at UFC 218.
Miocic (17-2, 11-2 UFC) picked up the title by knocking out Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198 in May 2016. He has since defeated Overeem and Junior dos Santos to successfully defend his title twice. The champ hasn’t fought since May due to contract issues with the promotion, but those are apparently being dealt with and this fight looks to be next.
