A much-anticipated heavyweight fight is close to being added to UFC 226.
Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis is scheduled for the July 7 card in Las Vegas, MMA Fighting has learned. The promotion is expected to finalize the fight in the coming days.
Ngannou (11-2) is coming off a loss to heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in January. The loss snapped the Frenchman’s ten-fight winning streak.
Lewis (19-5, 1 NC) has won seven of his last eight fights. He most recently defeated Marcin Tybura in February.
The heavy-hitting big men have been going back-and-forth via social media and interviews for over a year, guaranteeing that the fight will serve as a nice appetizer to UFC 226’s main event featuring Miocic vs. light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
The card is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
