“The Answer” set himself up for a second crack at the 145-pound belt with a stoppage over Chad Mendes, but won’t know if he truly has the title shot until Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor lay it all on the line tonight (Sat., Dec. 12, 2015).
A near spotless performance from No. 2-ranked UFC Featherweight Frankie Edgar in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale main event last night (Fri., Dec. 11, 2015) inside The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada over two-time title challenger Chad Mendes has secured “The Answer” a title shot.
The New Jersey brawler won rather easily (video), only after eating a few heavy leg kicks, by stunning “Money” with a blistering left hook less than three minutes into the opening round of their “Sin City” headliner. Edgar has notoriously been involved in some of UFC’s most action-packed tilts, but not this time.
“I expect to get taken down. I expect to land punches. I always prepare myself, like I’m probably going to leave with a broken nose. I’m probably going to leave with some stitches,” Edgar told MMA Fighting. “I just kind of get myself mentally ready for that. I believe in myself and I’m still getting better.”
Edgar is now on a five-fight win streak, with three finishes during that span.
Still, just because his resume is impressive, doesn’t mean that he will get a crack at the 145-pound belt.
We still are awaiting the most anticipated headliner of the year, a Featherweight title unification bout between rivals Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor at the UFC 194 pay-per-view (PPV) inside MGM Grand Garden Arena tonight (Sat., Dec. 12, 2015).
