Frankie Edgar — who is on the last fight of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contract — recently decided to undergo groin surgery (details) after he and his management team failed to come to terms with the promotion regarding a new contract.
No need to sound the alarm, though, as Edgar is okay and says he is confident he will come to terms with UFC on a new deal relative to the terms he wants, as he doesn’t see himself fighting anywhere else.
And while talks have come to a halt for the time being, “The Answer” is eying a return in May, possibly at the upcoming UFC 211 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Dallas, Texas, which is set to go down on May 13, 2017. And if he had his druthers, he wouldn’t mind facing interim featherweight champion, Max Holloway.
“I’m assuming Holloway, Lamas, one of those guys,” said Edgar on a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “I don’t know if Holloway is going to fight Aldo, or what’s going on with them. Those are the ones that makes sense. It all depends on what Holloway is going to do with Aldo or what Aldo wants to do.”
Aldo and Holloway were rumored to throw down at next weekend’s (Sat., Feb. 11, 2017) UFC 208 event in Brooklyn, New York; however, “Blessed” didn’t want to commit to the bout due to Aldo’s history of fight cancellations. And since Jose is also eyeing a boxing career, there is no telling if and when this title unification match will go down, which could leave the door wide open for Edgar to swoop in and fill the void.
If not, then he’s more than ready to challenge a certain “Bully” who has an empty dance card at the moment.
