Frankie Edgar takes shots at Jose Aldo’s history of injuries before UFC 200 title fight

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will have another chance to hoist Featherweight gold when he meets Jose Aldo at UFC 200 on July 9 for the interim 145-pound title.

The belt may not be of the undisputed kind currently wrapped around champion Conor McGregor’s waist, but it’s gold nonetheless.

Unfortunately, it is not guaranteed that Edgar and Aldo will meet in a long-awaited rematch next month. The Brazilian has pulled out of numerous fights in the past due to injury and “The Answer” wouldn’t be surprised if something forces Aldo out of their UFC 200 title fight.

“We were supposed to fight earlier and he had a little boo-boo on his foot from a motorcycle accident and we had to reschedule. I highly doubt he’s ever fought injured,” said Edgar in a recent interview with FOX Sports. “If he did, he must fight injured all the time because how much does this guy pull out of fights?”

While Edgar has fought only one more time than Aldo since their initial meeting back at UFC 156 in 2013, the 34-year-old has a point. Aldo most recently pulled out of his highly-promoted tilt with McGregor leading into UFC 189 last year, but did make it back to the Octagon to lose to the Irishman via 13-second knockout at UFC 194.

“I’m just trying to focus on him but I won’t be surprised if that happens, obviously,” added Edgar. “You’re seeing it happen in every weight class, not just us, but especially with Aldo. Anything can happen.”
