ONE: Global Rivals is set for the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on April 15 with the full fight card announced on Wednesday. A number of the fights could be potential title eliminators, including the co-main event, which pits Gianni Subba against Geje Eustaquio.
Eustaquio (7-4) has already challenged for the flyweight title once and will be looking for a second straight win after knocking out Saiful Merican in the first round in his most recent ONE Championship outing.
Subba (7-1) has spent his entire professional career competing for ONE and has more wins for the organization than any other fighter in the division. An eighth victory would leave him on the cusp of a shot at reigning flyweight king Kairat Akhmetov.
Coincidentally, Subba is coming off a debatable split-decision win over Anatpong Bunrad in a fight where a point deduction for the Thai proved decisive. By contrast, Eustaquio was on the wrong end of a similar outcome when he faced the same opponent last year, proving just how thin the margins between success and failure in MMA can be.
Two of the top lightweights on the roster will go head to head when Lowen Tynanes takes on former title challenger Koji Ando. The Hawaiian is undefeated and will feel that a win over the Japanese veteran is all that stands between him and a 2016 title shot.
Ando (12-4-2) is a former Legend FC champion who has never been stopped. Since signing for ONE, he’s beaten Rafael Nunes, Zorobabel Moreira, and Roger Huerta, and also holds a 2013 win over the organization’s former featherweight champion Narantungalag Jadambaa.
Tynanes (8-0) burst onto the scene by beating Eduard Folayang on a local show in the Philippines. That win brought him to the attention of ONE Championship and he has won four ….View full article
