Germaine de Randamie is serious about giving Holly Holm a rematch … so serious she called a press conference to push the fight.
The fallout from UFC 208 continues to swirl. Following their inaugural women’s featherweight title fight, serious concerns were raised regarding late shots from de Randamie over the end of two consecutive rounds. According to Holm’s camp, the referee should have taken one if not two points from de Randamie, which would have changed the scoring for the fight from 48-47 on all three scorecards to a 47-47 draw or even 46-47 for Holm.
Last night, Holm’s camp officially filed a complaint with the NYSAC looking to get her loss overturned, and you’d imagine that would result in de Randamie losing her belt. Not a great start for the women’s featherweight division, so the UFC and de Randamie decided to hold a telephone press conference this afternoon to discuss the situation.
The biggest news to come out of the phone call was that Germaine de Randamie is serious about offering Holly Holm a rematch to clear up the controversy from their first fight. Germaine defended the shots after the bell, saying she fought until the ref separated them as rules dictate and all the supposed late shots were part of combinations that were already on the go when the end of round bell sounded.
As far as de Randamie is concerned, if Holm’s camp feels like the lack of a point deduction cost her the fight, she should accept de Randamie’s invitation to a rematch and leave it at that. De Randamie added that a rematch with Holm currently takes precedent over a fight with Cris Cyborg because of the shadow it’s casting over the women’s featherweight title.
As far as the hand ligament injury she mentioned following her win, de Randamie says it flared up during her training camp for Holm, and she’s still waiting on a doctor to advise her on whether it needs surgery of rehab to fix.
Meanwhile, Cris Cyborg is sitting somewhere grinding her teeth.
Waiting for an update on @IronLadyMMA hand injury. #LetsGoChamp @HollyHolm has lost 3 in a row she doesn’t need a rematch b4 we fight.
