Here are the latest betting odds for Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez.
Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) vs. Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) was made official for September 16th following Canelo’s unanimous decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night. This will be a Middleweight (160 lbs) contest, with Golovkin putting his numerous belts on the line.

Early last year, when expectations were that the fight would be made for the fall of 2016, Golovkin was a pretty big favorite over Alvarez, with Bovada putting GGG at -350 to Canelo’s +265. With Golovkin looking more vulnerable in his wins over Kell Brook and (especially his unanimous decision against) Daniel Jacobs, while Canelo has mowed through Amir Khan, Liam Smith, and most recently Chavez, the odds have tightened considerably. The latest from Pro Boxing Odds has Golovkin still favored, but at -157 to Canelo’s +150.

We’re still four months away from fight night, so it’s not crazy to see Golovkin could actually close as an underdog, which seemed pretty unthinkable until GGG went the distance with Jacobs. No venue has been announced for this big event, but if it is Las Vegas, it’d be GGG’s debut in the Sin City.
