It looks like Gokhan Saki will get his wish for a short layoff between fights as the UFC has booked him for their December 30th card.
Gokhan Saki wants to make his title run a reality, and it appears the UFC is going to give him the chance to build momentum as quickly as possible. ‘Turkish Tyson’ made a splash in his UFC debut with a first-round comeback KO over Henrique da SIlva at UFC FIght Night: Saint Preux vs. Okami in late September.
The win marked Saki’s first MMA victory of his long combat sports career, and the first time he had competed outside of kickboxing since a 2004 bout against James Zikic. Saki has been training at Allstars in preparation for his UFC career, working alongside notable names like Alexander Gustafsson, Ilir Latifi, and Jimi Manuwa.
Saki has been vocal about his hopes to make a quick run to the UFC light heavyweight title, telling Ariel Helwani and the MMA Hour that he wanted one more fight this year and, “next year this time… I will be fighting for the title and I will take the title.”
The next step in that journey to title contention is Khalil Rountree. The ‘War Horse’ is on a two fight winning streak, with KOs of Daniel Jolly and Paul Craig, having started his UFC career 0-2 coming off TUF 23. This should promise to be another action-heavy fight for Saki as Rountree has leaned mostly on his power striking over the course of his MMA career to date.
UFC 219 is set for December 30th in Las Vegas, NV. The card is expected to feature Dominick Cruz vs. Jimmie Rivera, Cynthia Calvillo vs. Carla Esparza, and Carlos Condit vs. Neil Magny among other bouts.
