Here are the reported fight purses for HBO PPV headliners Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.
We are just one day away from Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) putting his middleweight titles on the line against secondary WBA titlist Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York. While the New York State Athletic Commission doesn’t release salary info, it’s common to see those details revealed by media sources, and this fight is no different.
According to RingTV’s Mitch Abramson, Golovkin will pocket $2.5 million to Jacobs’ $1.75 million, not including PPV points and whatever sponsorship money each side will be receiving. The $1.75 million for Jacobs tops his previous career-high of $1.5 million for his opening round TKO win over Peter Quillin in December 2015. As for the co-main event, WBC super flyweight (115 lbs) champion Roman Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KOs) is getting a career-high $550,000 for his title defense against Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, 38 KOs), who’s getting just a recorded $75,000.
Golovkin’s previous PPV bout against David Lemieux in October 2015 saw him get $2 million to Lemieux’s $1.5 million. For his destruction of Dominic Wade last April, he stayed at $2 million. Reportedly, GGG earned $5 million for his 5th round TKO win over Kell Brook in England, a fight which drew in 500,000 buys on Sky Box Office PPV. This will be GGG’s second HBO pay-per-view, while Jacobs is getting his first ever PPV main event slot.
Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs airs on HBO PPV on Saturday, March 18th at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT. You can watch the free preliminary card stream on Bloody Elbow at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT, and follow our live fight coverage throughout the night.
