Two of boxing’s most destructive figures team up once again as Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez hit the HBO airwaves, taking on challengers Dominic Wade and McWilliams Arroyo at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

MMAmania.com will deliver LIVE coverage of “Golovkin vs. Wade” right here, starting with the HBO World Championship Boxing broadcast at 10 p.m. ET.

Despite a rather low turnout for his first pay-per-view (PPV), Golovkin (34-0, 31 KO) has emerged as a legitimate star, dispatching all comers with astounding ease. Wade (18-0, 12 KO) is still in the prospect stage, but did enough for the IBF to anoint him Golovkin’s mandatory challenger.

Does he have a chance? Let’s find out.

The Fight

The answer is no.

What, you want more analysis? Fine. Wade barely scraped past Sam Soliman, an aging veteran with limited power, in his last bout. He’s never faced anyone who could even remotely prepare him for the monster that is Golovkin.

The Kazakh bruiser may not be quite the hardest pure puncher in boxing, a title I currently give to Russian Cruiserweight Dmitry Kudryashov, but he’s still an excellent hitter whose brutal jab and fundamentals present what’s so far been an unbeatable package. Even worse for Wade, Golovkin’s chin is iron. Flush power punches from Curtis Stevens and David Lemieux, the latter of whom could probably put a hole though solid concrete if he put his mind to it, failed to even rattle him.

There are challenges for Golovkin out there, most of them hanging out at Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight. Wade does not number among them. Golovkin blows him out in five.

Prediction: Golovkin by fifth-round technical knockout

That’s not to say this event isn’t worth watching — Gonzalez vs. Arroyo is an excellent clash of power punchers and Golovkin never fails to entertain. Hope you’ll stop by, Maniacs!
