Grappling Report: Gianni Grippo wins star-studded Kasai Pro tournament

Gianni Grippo’s impressive 2018 keeps going from strength to strength.

This past weekend, Kasai Pro put on one of the most stacked tournaments of the year, which featured a who’s who of the grappling world and it was enjoyable throughout. The field included 10th Planet star Geo Martinez, Danaher Death Squad’s Frank Rosenthal and former world champion Paulo Miyao, but it was Marcelo Garcia protege Gianni Grippo who ended up taking home the gold.

Grippo managed to secure a sweep in the dying moments of his finals match against Miyao to earn himself the Kasai Pro Featherweight title.

Gordon Ryan was pulled from his match against Matheus Diniz at Kasai due to some concerns with his blood work. Ryan suffered from hepatitis C as a child and has since been cured.

Polaris 8 from one Ryan brother to the other, Nicky Ryan has been given a new opponent for Polaris 8 after Ashley Williams was forced to withdraw due to injury. The 17 year-old Ryan will be clashing with 42 year-old mma legend Masakazu Imanari.

Former UFC champion Benson Henderson is scheduled to make his return to Polaris against the Combat Jiu Jitsu world champion, Vagner Rocha. Rocha, who his known for his insanely physical game, will be looking to impress in his Polaris debut.
