As we near an inevitable superfight with UFC megastar Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather sometime this year, the trashtalking between both sides will escalate beyond anyone’s comprehension. McGregor is arguably the best combat sports talker since Muhammad Ali and Mayweather has ran his own promotion for years. But before “Notorious” and “Money” have their own say, McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, had much to discuss about the controversial boxer.

“I do think Floyd Mayweather is pretty much a dirtbag,” said Kavanagh in a recent Q&A with Complex.com. “He’s beat up his girlfriends. I’ve watched [clips from Mayweather’s boxing gym] The Dog House. He just strikes me as a real bully-type character. He makes these guys fight each other endless rounds until one is badly hurt. He’s just not a good individual.”

Kavanagh is eluding to Mayweather’s history of domestic violence, in which he pleaded guilty to charges on two separate occasions and served a 60-day prison sentence after an incident in 2010. Because of that, the Straight Blast Gym coach doesn’t believe Mayweather is a good person outside of the ring.

“I’m a fan of his skills, but as a human being, the way he runs his gym, the way he carries himself—I mean, it is a little bit of an exchange of styles like that, so we’ll see what happens,” added Kavanagh. “[McGregor is] already pretty much a legend in Ireland folklore at this stage. But to do that [fight Mayweather]—what can I do except tip my hat to him that he’s embracing this challenge? He wants to fight one of the best boxers of all time.”

If everything goes as planned, McGregor will have a chance to play spoiler and ruin Mayweather’s perfect 49-0 record, or at least give him a few hard rounds. Kavanagh will be front and center hoping that his star pupil rises to the occasion yet again and dishes out some payback to Mayweather for his past mistakes.
