Hector Lombard is the scariest welterweight on earth.
Well, for about five minutes. After that, he’s a sitting duck, as we learned in a technical knockout loss to Neil Magny earlier this month in Brisbane, Australia. I guess that’s what happens when you’re built like a brick shithouse and forced to cut a ton of weight before fight night.
“I asked my body to perform, but I got no reply,” Lombard wrote on Instagram. “When your body says no and stops functioning there is nothing you can do about it. I’m very happy to be back fighting at my original weight [of] 185. Now with no IV allowed, I will be able to fight in a healthier weight for me.”
IV hydration was banned late last year.
Lombard (34-5-1, 1 NC), who once held the middleweight strap under the Bellator banner, is fairly undersized for the 185-pound weight class, but his grappling credentials and terrifying power still make him a contender. It will be interesting to see how the promotion matches him up in the weeks to come.
