Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight kingpin Conor McGregor, who is practically a household name after his boxing super fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., has reportedly been in talks with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Would “Notorious” abandon his Octagon duties for a pro wrestling career?
Not according to promotion president Dana White, who told FOX 5 NY the rumor was “absolutely not true” and that he was so worried about losing his Irish cash cow, he actually texted WWE head cheese Vince McMahon to set his mind at ease.
When asked to see the text message by co-host Rosanna Scotto, White showed the string of communications.
In one of the messages McMahon stated: “News to me”.
He later added “It might be good someday but not now”.
Then again, White told the same program McGregor would never fight Mayweather.
UFC fighters are no stranger to pro wrestling (sample here) and McGregor already has an existing feud with some of the top stars in WWE. But there is still a lot of work to be done in the lightweight division and “Notorious” remains under contract.
And the list of waiting contenders is growing by the minute.
