After her crushing knockout defeat to Ronda Rousey — which transpired in front of friends and family in her native Brazil — the general consensus among mixed martial arts (MMA) fans was that Bethe Correia was one and done.

Guess again.

“Pitbull” is not only stronger, smarter and more mature, she’s also headlining Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fight cards. More importantly, Correia may only be one or two big wins away from another crack at the women’s bantamweight crown.

From her conversation with Thomas Gerbasi:

“The fight with Ronda was one of the most incredible things that happened in my professional life. The result was not expected, but I found myself even stronger than I thought I was. Many people do not know how to deal with defeat and I thought that I would be one of those people, because it’s good to be unbeaten. But I learned from defeat, it gave me the courage to win, and I came back stronger, smarter and more mature. With each fight, I mature, and when I lost, I came back with more desire to learn, to develop and to be a professional of a high level.”

Correia (10-2-1) is 1-1-1 since her “Rowdy” defeat in late 2015.

Her latest challenge could be her stiffest to date, as “Pitbull” is saddled with turning away former 135-pound champion Holly Holm in the upcoming UFC Fight Night 111 main event, which comes to Singapore Indoor Stadium on UFC Fight Pass on June 17, 2017.
