An Academy Award nominee has given a shout out to a fighter scheduled to appear on a Eurasia Fight Nights card this weekend.

Tom Hardy. Academy award nominee? Check. Successful television producer? Check. One of the sexiest men alive? Check – according to People, Heat, and other glossy mags. Fan of obscure European MMA? Uh yeah, Check.

This week Hardy – star of The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises, and Inception – went public with his support for Liverpool-based MMA fighter Jack McGann, who fights Levan Makashvili this weekend at EFN – Fight Nights Global 62 in Moscow, Russia. Hardy, who can currently be seen in the FX drama Taboo, took to Instagram yesterday to call on his fans to watch McGann compete on Friday.

“Shout goes out to Jack McGann, who is back in the USSR,” said Hardy in the short clip. “Tune in this week to watch McGann knock the Russian the *** out!” The 23-year-old McGann is 11-3 in his pro career. In his last fight, at EFN 55, he beat Igor Edurov by KO. His opponent, Levan Makashvili, is not Russian at all. He’s Georgian and based out of Long Island, New York. In 2015 to 2016 Makashvili went 1-1-1 in the UFC with a win over Mark Eddiva, a loss to Hacran Dias, and a draw to Damon Jackson.

Made up that Tom took time out to come the house and give his best wishes ahead of my fight next week

Along with sending support into cyberspace, Hardy also visited McGann in person – according to an Instagram post uploaded by the young fighter on March 24th. His fandom of McGann is not Hardy’s first foray into the world of mixed martial arts. In 2011 he starred in Warrior, a film that featured him and Joel Edgerton as estranged brothers forced to face off in an MMA tournament. Warrior received a number of positive reviews and maintains an 83% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you want, you can heed Hardy’s recent words and tune in to watch his buddy fight live on UFC Fight Pass this Friday. EFN 62 Matmuratov vs. Kurzanov begins at 11:30am ET.
