How to watch Gennadiy Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko live stream online

On Saturday, October 5th at Madison Square Garden in New York, the vacant IBF middleweight title is on the line. Former unified champion Gennadiy Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs) takes on Ukraine’s Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KOs) in what should be a high-octane main event.

Golovkin is looking to become a world champion again after losing his titles to Canelo Alvarez last year. After knocking out Steve Rolls in a tune-up fight earlier this year, it looked like we’d see a Canelo trilogy. Unfortunately, that didn’t materialize, but Canelo vacating his IBF title opened the door for him to compete for a world title again.

Derevyanchenko was supposed to be Canelo’s mandatory challenger, but Alvarez balked a that matchup and is instead going up to 175 lbs to take on WBO champion Sergey Kovalev. Golovkin and Derevyanchenko were ordered to fight for the belt, and now we’ve got a fight. Derevyanchenko is a high-volume, high-workrate puncher with a strong amateur background. His only loss was a close one to Daniel Jacobs last year, also for a vacant IBF title.

On paper, GGG should still be the favorite. He hits harder, has a better chin, and has proven himself as a top-fight middleweight for a lot longer than Derevyanchenko. However, Derevyanchenko is a damn good fighter in his own right, and GGG is 37 years old. We’ll see if a surprise is sprung, or if Golovkin does the job as the betting favorite.
